What is yoga?
The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word "Yuj" meaning to yoke, join or unite. This implies joining or integrating all aspects of the individual - body with mind and mind with soul - to achieve a happy, balanced and useful life.
Yoga is a wonderful way to relax and refresh the body and mind. We all know it's easier to get a good night's sleep after an active day - yoga works on exactly the same premise. By warming up, challenging and working the body, it's easier to be still and find relaxation.
Classes are physically challenging - developing strength as well as flexibility. But the aim is more than just a work out and the overall feeling leaving a yoga class is generally that of energy, focus and relaxation.
What to expect from a yoga class
A yoga class will involve a series of movements and postures that work with the breathe. Isle Dance uses elements of Hatha and dynamic yoga to challenge the body and mind. Classes will be made up of static postures and movement aiming to warm up the body temperature and burn off any excess energy allowing participants to truly relax and still the body and mind.
Yoga does develop flexibility however this is only one part of it - yoga will also improve posture, develop strength, increase powers of concentration and mental calm. It will both relax and energise the body.
